Before the game started, the players, referees and staff took part in a minutes silence in memory of the lives lost in the Munich Air Disaster on the 63rd anniversary of the tragedy.

Both teams started the game off brightly. The first 15 minutes were relatively even with neither team creating any clear cut chances. From the 20th minute onwards, United started to take control of the game.

In the 24th minute, United got the breakthrough. Fernandes had the ball on the right hand side of the box. He played it back to Rashford in space. Rashford played an absolutely brilliant cross into the box.

Cavani was there at the back post just inside the six yard box to head it home. A brilliant assist from Rashford, a clinical header from Cavani and United were deservedly ahead.
