Ronaldo set to break Premier League record owned by Chelsea legend

Gianfranco Zola’s 19-year-old record is within CR7’s sights ahead of Manchester United’s latest game.

Cristiano Ronaldo is on the brink of breaking a Premier League record set by Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola.

The record in question is for the player with the most Premier League goals in a single campaign after his 36th birthday.

Zola has owned it for almost two decades. The former striker scored 14 goals in the 2002/03 season for Chelsea after he turned 36. His last goal came in a 4-1 win over Everton in April 2003.

Ronaldo, who has scored 12 league goals this term, is just two goals adrift of Zola’s record.

The 37-year-old hopes to repeat his Tottenham hat-trick heroics to help Manchester United get a much-needed victory against Leicester City at Old Trafford on Saturday.

At the time of writing, Bet365 has priced a home win for the Red Devils at 1.50. This suggests they have a 67% chance of adding three more points to their tally. Doing so will boost their hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League.
