Manchester United focus on signing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona due to N’Golo Kante transfer concerns
The Red Devils are see’king a new central midfielder in the transfer window following the de’partures of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Ma’tic.
Kante, whose contract at Che’lsea runs out next year, would be a strong addition wi’th his vast Premier League experience and track record of winn’ing trophies at Stamford Bridge.
However, according to The Athletic, Un’ited are concerned about the Frenchman’s injury problems whi’ch saw him miss large parts of last seas’on.
On Friday, reports in Spain sugge’sted De Jong has agreed a move to Old Trafford from Bar’celona.
At 25-years-old, De Jong repr’esents a smart signing for the future but the Dutchman w’ill cost considerably more than the 31-year-old Ka’nte.
United have also been link’ed with Declan Rice but reaching a deal for West H’am’s captain seems unlikely with the Hammers wanting upw’ards of £100million.
New manager Erik ten Hag is ke’en to add to his squad this summer after United finished si’xth last season and went a fifth successive year without a tr’ophy.
The former Ajax boss also wa’nts a striker and centre-half but will find it hard to lur’e players to Old Trafford with no Champions League foot’ball on offer.
United suffered a blow this w’eek when it emerged Liverpool were in advanced ta’lks to sign Benfica centre-forward Darwin Nu’nez.
