Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has urged harry Maguire to ‘dominate his opponents’ after giving the defender a rare start against Everton.
Maguire has struggled for playing time in the Premier League this season, with the likes of Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof ahead of him in the pecking order.
But the United captain will start just his sixth league game this term after coming in for Varane, who has been rested against the Toffees.
Ten Hag said: ‘He played against Fulham, he played against Vitesse, he’s playing for England. He’s fit, he’s ready.
‘We have the most crazy schedule from all the Premier League teams, we have three games to cover in six days, which is not right but we have to deal with it.
‘Harry Maguire, it doesn’t matter how the opponent is playing, he can deal with all his opponents. He has to bring it on the pitch, I’ve seen so many things on the training ground.
‘He has to dominate his opponents in and out of possession, that is his status and his reputation.’
